“The Allegheny County Health Department Air Quality Program is responsible for protecting the public's health by regulating air pollutants within Allegheny County, enforcing federal pollution standards, and permitting industrial sources of air pollution.” ACHD. There are 18 air monitoring sites throughout the county with headquarters in Lawrenceville. One of the most challenging areas is Clairton because of the coke plant located at the base of the valley.
